Recall of Eaton Cummins Automated Transmissions

Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies plans to recall more than one thousand of automated transmissions because of a software malfunction that may lead to uncontrollable movement of the vehicle.

According to the competent authority NHTSA, the recall will include Endurant and Paccar transmission models. The issue lies in the fact that the transmission control module (TCM) may allow the engine to start for a short period of time even if the gear shifter is not in neutral. If a gearbox is not in neutral position when the engine starts operating, the car may move unpredictably leading to possibility of car accidents.

Eaton Cummins still has not received any complaints related to this problem. Specialists of the company claim that the problem can be solved with the help of the software update that keeps the engine starter from activation before the gear shifter is in neutral.Producers of cars equipped with abovementioned transmissions will be informed about the necessity to update TCM software that consequently will lead to the recall of affected cars.
