PSA Group accelerates its transition to hybrid
and electric powertrains. Recently, it has transpired that Punch Powertrain
will be the supplier of electrified gearbox solutions for vehicles of the
French auto giant.
Ford Australia has been adjudged guilty of improper
actions related to repair and replacement operations of a defective gearbox,
resulting in numerous complaints from customers. The judicial authorities of
Australia placed the carmaker under the obligation to pay a $10 million penalty
for an inappropriate investigation of complaints.
The Chinese company Geely stated that they
established a joint venture with Aisin Seiki, the Japanese manufacturer of
automatic transmissions, to produce 6-speed FWD automatic gearboxes and
relevant spare parts in China.
Recently, Ford has refused to use the 9-speed
automatic transmission Hydra-Matic 9T50 developed by GM engineers as part of
the partnership agreement. According to Ford representatives, they hoped for a better
result from the partnership, especially regarding the transmission fuel efficiency.
The company Subaru gradually excludes manual
gearboxes from the design of new models, replacing them with CVTs. This trend
became clear after the recent release of the 5-th generation Subaru Forester,
which has only one modification with the 2,5 liter opposed engine and CVT (Lineartronic).
However, Tom Doll, the head of the North American Subaru branch, recently has
assured journalists that the next generation of the popular Subaru WRX will keep
a manual gearbox.
