Hyundai Veloster N May Get a DCT Transmission Option

Hyundai officially presented its Veloster N model more than a year ago, however, the company’s test-driving team has been recently spotted testing a new prototype near the Nurburgring. And it seems like Hyundai considers adding a new transmission option for its hot hatch.

At the moment, the Veloster N is offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The tested model, however, seems like it is equipped with more sophisticated transmission. At this point it can’t be claimed for 100%, but if you pay attention on how smoothly and rapidly it shifts gear and bear in mind that the carmaker has already given a green light to a DCT option for the Hyundai i30 N, it seems reasonable to assume that the tested prototype also has been equipped with the DCT.

During the last year, experts many times expressed confidence in the possibility of introduction of the automatic option for the Veloster N during 2019, and it looks like these speculations turn out to be true. And it all makes sense that Hyundai has decided to check the new transmission option in action before making any official announcements. Even some Hyundai officials say that the use of the manual transmission as the only option significantly limits sales in countries where automatic models dominate the market, especially the USA. These restrictions seem to facilitate the expansion of transmission options.

According to official statistics, the share of cars with manual transmissions has been significantly reduced due to low demand, thus many carmakers drop prefer automatics over manuals to stay competitive on the American market. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the Hyundai Veloster N should have some efficient automatic transmission to find a ready sale in the US.

Nevertheless, Hyundai officials still claim a manual to be the only option for the Veloster N. But everyone knows that in the automobile industry everything can change in an instant.
