Garbage Vehicles Equipped with Allison Transmissions Clean up after a Crisis

Two companies that took on the obligation to solve the pressing garbage issue in Lebanon both praised garbage-collecting vehicles equipped with Allison transmissions. The choice of the transmission solution was prompted by competitive strengths of Allison products over other types of transmissions in the refuse application.

When RAMCO and City Blu won the bid to resolve the garbage crisis, each put money into the acquisition of Mercedes-Benz Atego vehicles equipped with Allison’s 3000 Series TM transmissions on the advice of the local Mercedes dealer.

The garbage turmoil in Lebanon erupted 4 years ago, when a dumping ground in the village of Nameh had to be shut down because it was packed to capacity and there was other appropriate place for a new landfill. The garbage collection issue caused numerous protests against insufficient sanitary arrangements forced the government to address the problem in earnest.

City Blu gave preference to 15 Mercedes-Benz Atego 1729s all equipped with automatic 3000 Series transmissions. City Blu’s truck and transmission choice was motivated by the peculiarities of the roads in its areas of responsibility. To drive on sharp hills require quick-response powertrain components, and narrow streets of villages demand accurate gear shifting and maneuver capabilities. Drivers of garbage vehicles say that the 3000 Series transmission helps them to fully focus on the road and to forget about shifting gears manually. Advanced characteristics of the 3000 Series transmission play a crucial role in performance of Actros trucks.
