Asian Automatic Transmissions will Get Advanced Lubricants from LUKOIL

This year, LUKOIL, one of the leading oil companies in Russia, releases not only new engine oil GENESIS, but also launches production of specialized transmission fluids SYNTH VI for Japanese and Korean cars.

LUKOIL actively increases its presence in the premium segment of oil products. The research activities of the company turned out to be rewarding. The products of new specifications have already become serious competitors for foreign analogs. Thanks to unique raw materials, the new transmission oils have great protective and low temperature properties which exceed modern international standards.

One of such products is LUKOIL ATF SYNTH ASIA – transmission fluid for 4 and 5-speed automatic transmissions. This product, comparable in quality to Dexron IIIH, is a high-quality alternative to OEM fluids for Japanese, Korean, and American cars where manufacturers recommend using original Type T-4, Hyundai / KIA SP-III, Honda Z-fluids 1, etc. Currently, OEM fluids dominate the oil market for Asian automatic transmissions. However, LUKOIL started actively promoting its products in China and in countries of the Pacific Rim. In Russia, in the Far East in particular, these products can become quite popular for drivers, especially for owners of post-warranty vehicles.

The second novelty product LUKOIL ATF SYNTH VI (officially licensed under the Dexron VI standard) can be used as an exchange for almost all transmission fluids (with the viscosity of ~ 6–7 cSt at 100 ° C) used for 6, 7, and 8-speed automatic transmissions. The third product LUKOIL ATF SYNTH CVT is developed for CVT transmissions.

Representatives of the company LLK-International (a subsidiary of LUKOIL specialized in lubricants) informed that LUKOIL ATF SYNTH ASIA and SYNTH VI have successfully passed laboratory tests according to the methods included in the international standard JASO 1A. At the same time, LUKOIL ATF SYNTH ASIA also successfully passed field tests (duration of up to 145 thousand kilometers) on 10 new cars provided by Japanese, Korean, and German carmakers. Drivers pointed out improved quality of gear shifting in comparison with OEM fluid. Excellent low-temperature properties provided the effect of smoother operation on “cold” automatic transmissions under the condition of low temperatures as well as lack of vibrations and jolts.

In recent years, LLK-International and foreign automakers have been focused on joint development of engine and transmission oils supplied to factories for the first filling. This collaboration gave a deep understanding of the prospects for further improvement of lubricants. Carmakers say that the evolution of advanced transmission fluids helps to increase the service life of automatic transmissions and their efficiency. In 2017, LUKOIL launched a large-scale joint development program with European, American and Japanese manufacturers – these are 20 projects on development of the new generation engines and transmission oils.
