Meritor Acquires TransPower, Strengthening Its Electrification Potential

Recently, it has been reported that Meritor, Inc. has taken over Transportation Power (more commonly known as TransPower) by purchasing all of its outstanding common shares. The details of this deal haven’t been unveiled.

Thanks to this important deal, Meritor plans to dedicate more efforts to the implementation of its M2022 strategic plan aimed at development and introduction of the most sophisticated automotive solutions. It also further promotes the value of Meritor's Blue HorizonTM brand, which offers the company's emerging platform of high-tech solutions, such as electrified drivetrains, based on electrification concepts.

Meritor officials are satisfied that this deal has been finalized, as TransPower expertise and professionalism will help Meritor to produce even more advanced electric drivetrains for its customers. New ideas and technological approaches will allow Meritor to strengthen its position as a top provider of electrified solutions for CVs.

In 2019, Meritor presented more than two dozen electrification initiatives involving major OEMs, which are supposed to put approximately 130 electrified commercial trucks on the road during 2020. The company started investing in TransPower three years ago, with the aim to speed up the advancement of the EV platform.

Meritor redoubled its efforts on implementation of this strategy last spring, by boosting its investment aimed at modifications in its eAxle, which is assumed to become next step in evolution of electrified drivetrains, and the commercial application of EV system solutions. Shortly afterwards, the two companies reported the accomplishment of 2 major projects consisting in production of environmentally-friendly electric yard tractors and Class 8 trucks.
