Ricardo Provides DCT Transmission Software for CEVT

Ricardo, a British-based engineering company, has recently taken an obligation to manufacture and supply transmission control software for a 7-speed DCT unit for CEVT, a Swedish-based innovation center specialized in mobility technologies for the Geely Group brands. It is planned that the new software will find application in a 2020 compact luxury crossover.

According to Ricardo, the software has been created on the basis of a ‘systemized track’ approach, in which the vehicle level specifications helped to specify the software of the gearbox control unit. Moreover, it is said that the software complies with the industry standard ‘A-Spice Level 2’. This included thorough testing at different levels, and providing complete traceability between the specification of each vehicle-level requirement, testing procedures and results.

Moreover, it is alleged that the new software also corresponds to the international standard of functional safety to provide in-built monitoring feature. Thus, in case of any software/hardware failure, the maximum operational availability of the gearbox will be maintained, while also taking into account its safe operation.

The process of software development for automobiles demands a well-thought and systemic approach to guarantee the necessary level of operational efficiency, fault-tolerance and safety, while also ensuring the required level of flexibility. Ricardo has already made a significant progress in this direction, but cannot afford to become complacent, as the software requirements become more complicated with rapid development of electric and hybrid vehicles.
