More Info on the C8 Corvette’s Transmission Leaked on the Internet

Recently, some new details related to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, assumed to find application on the C8 Corvette, were posted on the Internet It is referred to the patent application from GM recently released online on the Mid Engine Corvette Forum.

The considered patent was filed 4 years ago, but only issued on the fourth of June of this year. This lengthy document gives some insights into an eight-speed transmission, but it does not specify possible applications of this gear shifting solution. But the long-awaited C8 model is considered by many specialists as the most probable application for this DCT solution in GM’s product range. Debates about the C8 transmission options have been thrilling the minds of auto enthusiasts for some time now; two months ago, it was widely rumored that the C8 Corvette would be equipped with the gear shifting system from the German company ZF. This advanced solution, or its modifications, have found application in several sports cars (including some Porsche models).

The leaked patent document, however, does not contain any mention of the new transmission supplier, but some experts hint at Tremec rather than ZF. It is assumed that the C8’s transmission will be paired with the Stingray 6.2-L V8 engine, while later C8 versions may have a twin-turbo V8 and even a hybrid option. Thus, the only thing we know for so far about the much-anticipated brand new C8 Corvette is the release date - July 18, meaning that we are only little more than a month away from dispelling all doubts and secrets surrounding the upcoming C8 Corvette.
