Allison Transmission Plans to Build Test Facility in Indianapolis

Allison Transmission, a world-renowned manufacturer of automatic gearboxes for commercial trucks, plans to sink money in a new environmental vehicle testing facility that will boost further development in the industry.

Allison products find application in different industries thanks to their exceptional features of adaptability to different usage environments. According to David Graziosi, CEO of Allison, the new test facility will enable Allison technicians to perform a wide range of tests via simulation of actual operating conditions and operating cycles.

It is planned that the facility will be sited close to the Allison’s global headquarters in Indianapolis. It will include 2 climatic test chambers for simulation of temperature limits, altitude, and on-road conditions. Thanks to this innovation it will be possible to achieve significant improvements in regulatory compliance testing, on-board diagnostic development, and performance enhancements for vehicle functional optimization. The new environmental testing facility will be applicable to a variety of propulsion units, including standard drivetrains, hybrid, and E-vehicles.

There are only a few similar facilities in the US, and it will be the 1-st one in the Midwest. Moreover, other companies will also be able to use the chamber for their own testing. The project implementation has already been started and it will be put in commission next year. Public authorities of Indianapolis also express appreciation and support for community-oriented activities of Allison which benefit the city, the automobile industry, and the whole world.
