Driver experiences total loss of propulsion when shifting into Drive or Reverse, sometimes accompanied by slipping.

3-5-Reverse clutch drum weld cracks
Cracks or leaks at the welds of the 3-5-Reverse clutch drum allow fluid loss, causing flares and slips that progress from 3rd gear into 5th and Reverse.

Cracked or split fluid filter
A damaged pump can send a high-pressure fluid spike down the filter neck on cold start, causing the filter body to crack or the seam to split, which can lead to no-forward/no-reverse or slipping.
