Wear of the torque converter release (lock-up) regulator valve causes excessive TCC slip, harsh lock-up apply/release and an overheated converter.

Clutch A/E control valve wear
Wear of the Clutch A and Clutch E control pressure regulator valves causes 5-4 flare or neutral condition and failure to reach 4th gear, often with solenoid fault codes.
